Canon EOS Rebel 300D Review
|

If you’re looking for value, but don’t
want to skimp
on features and performance then Canon’s EOS 300D Digital
Rebel
is probably the best camera going in its class. Canon created the 300D
to give consumers a reasonably priced dSLR that delivers comparable
performance to its 6-megapixel benchmark EOS 10D.
And while the 300D is similar to the 10D, when you factor in weight,
color and price; there is no comparison. The 300D is the champ.
After slapping on the 18-55mm kit lens, you’ll notice just
how
balanced the 300D feels in your hand… almost like an
extension
of your hand. The 300D’s body is plastic, instead of
magnesium
like the 10D, helps bring the weight and the cost down.
Canon also uses a pentamirror with this camera (instead of a
pentaprism) and equipped it the fantastic DIGIC image processor, plus
it has the outstanding 6.3 megapixel CMOS sensor that you’ll
find
on the EOS 10D. The 300D shoots at 2.5fps in 4 frame bursts while in
the continuous shooting mode.
Canon gives consumers the ability to adjust the Contrast and Saturation
just like the 10D, but the 300D has twice the sharpness as its big
brother.
You can adjust each of these settings in-camera, but be careful because
you can never retrieve “clipped” photo information
after
the fact. However, these picture adjustment features makes it so the
images from the 300D are “ready to print” just
after
shooting, with minimal adjustments in Photoshop or the bundled image
processing software.
The 300D has direct printing capabilities, with compatible Canon Card
Photo Printers, Canon Bubble Jet Printer and a PictBridge-equipped
Printers.
Like all the Digital Rebels, you have access to Canon’s
impressive line of EF and EF-S lenses for extreme flexibility.
The EF-S lens system has the same mount as the EF lenses, but it sits
deeper in the camera to be closer to the sensor and can therefore be
reduced in size.
The canon 300D has a 1.8-inch LCD, a 7-point AutoFocus system with
superimposed focusing points that performs with amazing ability in near
complete darkness, three AutoFocus modes (AI Focus, One shot and AI
Servo), 12 shooting modes (Auto, Program, Aperture-priority,
Shutter-priority, Manual, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Night, Sport,
Flash Cancel and Auto-Depth-of-Field), ISO from 100 to 1600, and
RAW+JPEG image acquisition.
The 300D has three metering modes, Evaluative, Partial Center and
Center-weighted and has a shutter speed ranging from 30 seconds to
1/4000th, 7 white balance presets plus a customer preset.
The 300D has phenomenal battery life, even if you’re using
the
built-in pop-up flash, so it’s unlikely that you’ll
miss a
shot. If you’re looking to dip your toe in the dSLR water or
are
on a tight budget, then the EOS 300D will more than impress.
